Requirements

Proof of stable retirement income or pension sufficient to cover living expenses in Malta. While there is no fixed legal minimum, an income of less than €12,700 per year is considered too low, and it is strongly advised to have at least €30,000 per year to apply confidently.

Proof of accommodation in Malta (property ownership or rental agreement).

Health insurance covering Malta.

Clean criminal record.

Valid passport and personal documents.

Application process

Gather required documents
Submit the application to the Maltese Residency Agency or Maltese consulate. The Malta Retirement Visa application fee is €2,500. This fee is non-refundable and payable upon submission of the application.
Wait for approval, usually 2–3 months
If approved, travel to Malta and validate your permit in person.
